Wish I was there but it is Special Olympic Time, Rick!! I might have to go buy some Red Bull for my athletes for tomorrow's competition!!! I will never forget the Red Bull story - makes me laugh!! Love you, Man, and God has great things in store!! Janie
Richard, Just wanting you to know that I've had you on my mind ever since Brenda called me. I have been praying to God and asking him to give you the strength to overcome this setback and to send his Angels to protect you. Remember that you are an athlete and you will "PERSEVERE"! Lord, help Rick to remember that nothing is going to happen to him that You and Rick together can't handle. God Bless You, "Big E"
I am just now reading about Rick. Sending prayers up for his continued recovery and for your family as you walk this journey. God's healing hand is on all of you, Martha Contreras Humes, WRHS Class of 1972
I have so much love and respect for this wonderful man, Sending prayers for his recovery, and for your entire family, with God and your families love and faith he will beat this , the race may have just started but HE will reach the finish line!! Continue to pray, for Rick and entire family and friends. With deep respect and love, Vicki Boren-Seever ( Sara Seever's Mother Class of 2016)
Thank you so much for this blog because it is wonderful to see how Rick is doing. We spent so many wonderful years with Rick and Kathy At Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and worked in the Indian mission together. They are and have been, and will be some of our dearest friends. We and our church are praying for Rick and his continued recovery. When you get a chance, ask about the dancing rat! Kerry and Donna Willingham

Thanks for the prayers. And dear ones you do indeed go way back! Rick and I had booked our flight to come to DC to see Crystal and had hoped to meet up with you. Sorry that can't happen now. Another time perhaps.
Hi Daughters.. PLEASE realize That this blog is a wealth of information for us to keep in touch with things, so thank you very much and it is being reed every day. I have it on my computer, and also on my iPad so I can check on Rick and see how he's doing. So great job for all of you, and Kathy please remember that we love you very much and are praying for you and Rick of course! My mom had a stroke a long time ago, and she recovered just fine but had a lot of the same issues that Rick is having. Speech was a problem and also one side was paralyzed for quite a long time. That was 30 years ago! Take care and remember that we are thinking of you all the time!
Way to go Rick, on your strong therapy efforts. I know Kathy and the girls are your biggest cheering section. Pretty soon we'll have to have a NSU BSU oldtimers softball game. So you can show your girls the game saving catch you made in the 1976 All-World College Retreat Series Championship game. Man alive, it gets better every year I tell it.
Anyway, Happy Anniversary for the game, errrr, I mean, for ya'lls marriage.
May Jesus continue to Bless you two. Robert & Syretha
Richard Wayne, thanks to your loving wife Kathy and your beautiful daughters I have been reading "Run Rick" daily and have watched the videos of your physical therapy. The Lord has blessed you with determination and drive to overcome this detour as I have seen through the videos. You have been in my heart daily since 7 May. I have been praying to God The Father to give you strength and will power so that you may have the perseverance to regain your physical abilities and speech. God Bless You, "Big E"
Thank you for taking the time to update this blog. It is a good way to stay informed of Rick's progress. Your family is in our prayers. Tony and Brandi Vowell and family
Hey there Thayer clan!!! I was so happy to hear Rick is home again and making contined progress especially with the speech (in case you don't remember that was my major at NEOSU)! Way to go, Ricky-poo!! (Now you know who it is =P)! Keep working hard on that homework (School days, school days, dear old golden rules days). Your entire family is an inspiration, Rick! God knows what He is doing so contine to rely on Him. I am praying for God to strengthen you ALL beyond belief to His glory!! Much love, Janie in OKC. (P.S. Finish this song verse: "They went jumping and leaping and ___________ God.")
Okay, so apparently I need therapy as well!! Let's try the "PS" thing again! Finish this song verse: They went walking and leaping and ____________ God." (I guess jumping and leaping would be considered the same thing)!! 😜
Congratulations on your new grand baby!!!!! I'm totally jealous. She is beautiful and I must say.....I love her middle name!! The Thayer family is on my mind and in my prayers often. I love hearing how God is being glorified through all of this while the enemy continues to be proven defeated!!! You are on a winning team, Rick!!!! Victory is already yours!
One quick bit of news/information that Rick might enjoy and get a kick out of... A lot: I am coaching middle school girls' softball!!!! You know...... Actual softball - not just my usual Special Olympic coaching. I LOVED playing on our co-Ed BSU ball team at NEOSU so much!!! Great memories. Larry Beard and I talked about that at our first reunion 6 years ago! We were awesome, Rick!!!! Praying for you, Kathy and the whole family!!!! Janie Sullivan Bowden (mostly Sullivan).
Rick; Hey Bro you are looking good. I am very encouraged by your progress this week in New Mexico. Keep up the good work. Know that you are on my mind and close to my heart. I love you man...wishing you the very best.
